Safeguarding and Safer Care in Foster and Kinship Care - 2026 edition

  • Length: 2 hrs, 35 minutes (ideally complete across 7 days)

Course Overview

This is not your typical safeguarding course. It is built for real life, the Tuesday night moments, the uneasy feeling after contact, the pattern that builds quietly over time.

The course is structured across seven short, focused days to reduce emotional overload and allow reflection between sessions. We recommend completing one section per day. However, you remain in control. If you prefer to complete part or all of it in one sitting, you can. The pace is yours.

You will explore:

  • Indicators of harm, including physical and behavioural signs.
  • Cumulative harm and pattern recognition.
  • Neglect and ambiguity.
  • Immediate risk and escalation.
  • Allegations and safer care planning that protect children and protect you.

Scenario based learning can be filtered for foster carers or kinship carers. This matters because the pressures, legal contexts, and family dynamics differ. Practising judgement within your own reality makes the learning more relevant and more transferable to everyday life.

We also link to trusted external resources, including guidance on types of abuse from organisations such as the NSPCC and videos produced by safeguarding specialists. Where expertise already exists, we signpost you directly to it.

Alongside the course, you will have access to the Safe Pause app, designed for those “Should I be worried?” moments that do not wait for training days.

This is not about ticking boxes.

It is about strengthening your judgement, clarity, and confidence in safeguarding practice.

Our carers & other professionals love us

Absolutely brilliant, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This was one of the best on-line safeguarding courses I have attended. The mix of direct discussion with course trainer teamed with interactive questions, use of informative short videos and exceptional links to sites that can provide you with practical advice and tools is fantastic. I've been a social worker for 22 years and have taken helpful links and strategies that I will use in my everyday practice.

So simple to follow, thought provoking and kept my interest throughout. I didn't find myself feeling frustrated or telling myself "I already know this and have heard it all before".

This was a great course. Having attended lots of safeguarding and safer caring courses, this was engaging, kept my interest and was a nurturing but factual way to do the course. I loved the focus on noticing subtle changes in young people and encouraging curiosity and early sharing of concerns.
