Navigating the Emotional Impact of Allegations

Course Overview

An allegation or safeguarding concern can feel frightening, disorientating and deeply personal. Even when a concern is not upheld, the uncertainty can affect your sleep, confidence, relationships and the atmosphere across the whole household.

This course helps foster parents and kinship carers understand both the safeguarding process and the emotional response it can trigger. You will explore why the body may move into fight, flight or freeze, how different parts of an investigation can run alongside one another, and why clear, factual records and early independent support matter.

You will also work through a practical plan for the first hour, first day and first week, including what to report, what not to investigate yourself, who to contact, what questions to ask and how to protect the wellbeing of everyone at home.

The course does not replace your service’s procedures, but it will help you feel more informed, steady and prepared during an extremely difficult process.
