Course Overview

Caring for children with trauma can bring incredible rewards — but also some of the toughest moments you’ll ever face. When anger shows up as shouting, defiance, or aggression, it’s not just hard on the child; it takes a toll on you too.

This course is designed to give you more than just theory. It offers practical, therapeutic tools you can use straight away — helping you to stay calm, de-escalate safely, and respond in ways that build trust instead of breaking it.

You’ll come away not only with confidence for the heat of the moment, but also with longer-term approaches to reduce aggression and strengthen connection.

Whether you’re a foster carer, adoptive parent, kinship carer, or residential worker, this course will help you feel more equipped, less alone, and more hopeful about supporting children through their “fire".

Important:

This course doesn't teach restraint techniques - that requires professional oversight and is a contentious practice. Instead, we focus on something more powerful: understanding. When you truly understand what's driving a child's anger, everything changes.

Nearly half of UK foster carers report being physically harmed by a foster child. We acknowledge that reality whilst helping you understand the 'why' behind the behaviour.
